Cayman Chemical and Akadeum Partner to Expand Cell Isolation Technology

September 26, 2025 | Friday | Business Deal

Cayman Chemical, a global provider of life science research tools, and Akadeum Life Sciences, a leader in buoyancy-based cell separation technology, announced a distribution partnership to expand access to Akadeum's next-generation cell isolation technology for cell and gene therapy development.

Under the agreement, Cayman will distribute Akadeum's portfolio of buoyant microbubble cell isolation kits, integrating this groundbreaking platform into their extensive portfolio of products and services that support life science research and discovery.

Developed and manufactured at Akadeum's headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the company's microbubble-based cell isolation approach overcomes existing challenges of obtaining highly pure cell populations without compromising cell health, a critical early step in the development of cell and gene therapy applications.

As the first new cell separation modality in more than 40 years, Akadeum's microbubble technology delivers a solution that is faster and gentler than traditional methods of separating cells from mixed populations. The kits feature simple protocols that easily integrate into existing workflows, yielding highly pure, isolated cell populations with improved recovery, high viability, and superior cell health.

Akadeum's buoyant microbubble technology is a groundbreaking platform for cell isolation, and its partnership with Cayman marks an important step toward expanding access to the global research community. The collaboration is expected to empower researchers to drive progress across a wide range of fields, from advancing fundamental discoveries to enabling breakthroughs in cell and gene therapy.

"Cayman's strong distribution network and reputation for delivering high-quality research tools make them an ideal partner for Akadeum Life Sciences," said Brandon McNaughton, Ph.D., Akadeum's CEO and Founder.  "Through this partnership, scientists worldwide will have access to Akadeum's microbubble technology, which provides a simpler, more effective method of cell separation that enhances purity, recovery, viability, and scalability."
