University of New England Strengthens Career Development Through Global Network

The University of New England (UNE) in Maine has launched a groundbreaking professional initiative to connect students with alumni, employers, mentors, and industry leaders and expand career opportunities, grow the region's workforce areas of critical need, and support lifelong professional development.

Designed to extend career readiness beyond the classroom and graduation, the Nor'easter Global Network provides students and alumni with access to professional relationships, mentorship, industry expertise, and opportunities across disciplines and geographic boundaries.

At its center is UNE CareerConnect, a new digital platform where members can connect with professionals, exchange knowledge, explore career resources, and identify opportunities. More than 17,000 accounts existing accounts have established an immediate foundation for the network's continued growth.

The launch reflects a broader evolution in how colleges and universities approach career readiness, moving beyond traditional job placement toward sustained professional engagement. At UNE, that approach brings students, alumni, faculty, and employers together within a single professional community, connecting career exploration and mentorship with the workforce needs of Maine and beyond.

"Universities have a responsibility to prepare students not just for their first jobs, but for careers that will evolve alongside a rapidly changing workforce," said UNE President James Herbert. "The Nor'easter Global Network reflects the University of New England's commitment to connecting education with opportunity, giving students the relationships, experiences, and professional support they need to succeed while helping employers build a skilled, sustainable, and adaptable workforce for Maine and beyond."
